New sub-specialty in plastic surgery at FJMU in the offing

LAHORE: A foreign delegation of senior professors Friday visited the Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to consult and collaborate for setting up a new sub specialty in plastic surgery. Prof Peter Dziewulski, director St Andrew’s Centre for Burn and Plastic Surgery, Chelmsford UK, Dr Bruce Emerson, consultant anesthetist at St Andrew’s Center for Burn Plastic Surgery, Chelmsford UK and SK Sen, consultant plastic and burn surgeon South Mead Hospital Bristol, UK, were among the visitors, on the invitation of FJMU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal.

The purpose of this visit is consultation and collaboration for establishing a new sub specialty in Plastic Surgery in Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU). Vice Chancellor FJMU Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal briefed the delegation about establishing the new sub specialties in plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, endocrinology and rheumatology in Fatima Jinnah Medical University.

Jinnah Burn Unit Executive Director Prof Muazzam Nazir Tarrar assured facilitation and collaboration for the establishment of plastic surgery unit. Prof Kamran Khalid Khawaja, director Medical Education told the delegation that Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is one of the main breast cancer surgery hospitals where reconstruction after surgery is very important part.Through establishing this department the patients of burn incidents can get quality treatment. Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Fayyaz Butt declared the establishment of the unit as a revolutionary step for patients.
