LAHORE: The National Assembly (NA) has passed a bill to bring Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court (SC) and the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
Minister for Law and Justice Bashir Virk on Friday tabled the bill in the lower house of parliament where the routine proceedings were suspended to discuss the brutal Kasur incident.
The bill was aimed at extending the jurisdiction of the top court and the PHC to FATA in order to safeguard their rights and to ensure justice in accordance with the constitution.
Amid opposition by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), the bill was passed with the majority of votes in favour of it.
Earlier, the house held a detailed discussion on the murder and rape of a seven-year-old girl Zainab from Kasur.
The lawmaker strongly condemned the incident and demanded public execution of the culprits.
Zainab, a resident of Rod Kot area of Kasur, was kidnapped on her way to a tuition centre on January 05. Her body was found at a garbage pile near Kashmir Chowk after four days. Initial postmortem report revealed the minor was strangled to death after being raped for multiple times.
