KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has claimed that Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has approved hundreds of industrial, commercial and residential bulk water connections in violation of rules and regulations of entity in past six years.
The investigating officials of NAB informed the institutions that had been entertained during this period include Tuwairqi Steel Mills Limited, Pakistan Textile City, Askari V, Bahria Town Karachi, Faisal Base (PAF), Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim, Coca Cola Beverages Pakistan Limited, Agha Khan University of Arts and Science, Bazarta Pumping Station NORE-II under (Navy), Bulk Water Supply Gadap Town, National Refinery Limited and Sindh Industrial Trading Estate Limited.
NAB in a recent raid at KWSB office Karsaz billing section confiscated all relevant records and billings of the past three years. NAB has also investigated the officials of KWSB in this connection, according to their officials.
There have been regular complaints against KWSB from different quarters regarding illegal water connections, NAB official informed.
After the thorough investigation of confiscated records, arrest and afterwards filling of police report would be a possible action.
KWSB had approved water connections from main water bulk supply lines of 72 inches, 66 inches and 48 inches, which is illegal as water connection can not be allowed from main water trunks directly, NAB officials revealed.
However Mr Rizwan Ahmed spokesperson of the Water board informed Daily Times that they had completed the water connections procedures according to law and their has been no violations in regard to the connections.
