LAHORE: Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notices to federal government and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on an application seeking action against disqualified ex- Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Safdar for their alleged speeches against the judiciary. Judge sought replies from the respondents till January 18 on application filed by a civil society member, Amna Malik. Counsel for petitioner Muhammad Azhar Siddique submitted that disqualified former Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam had continuously making speeches against superior court judges. He further submitted that Nawaz Sharif was also trying to discredit the apex judiciary. He said that both father and daughter started scandalize the Supreme Court which had held Nawaz Sharif disqualified from election as parliament member after due process of law and now they had no way out and instead of facing the illegalities committed by them had started blaming judiciary. He also said that the petitioner had approached PEMRA against coverage of their speeches but it did not take any action in order to address this serious and alarming issue. He pointed out that in recent past on January 6, in public gathering held in Kot Momin, Nawaz Sharif and his daughter again criticized the apex court judges of SC. Nawaz Nawaz Sharif said, `Dual standard of justice in country unacceptable, while Maryam uttered, ` Justice also will be restored one day.’ He requested to order PEMRA to ban speeches of Nawaz Sharif and his daughter from playing on tv channels. He also requested to direct PEMRA to ensure stoppage of anti-judiciary speeches and licenses of those TV channels be suspended which gave coverage to the anti-judiciary and hate speeches.
