The 22nd death anniversary of legendary actor Sultan Rahi observed

LAHORE: The 22nd death anniversary of legendary film star, Sultan Rahi, was observed at his residence in Lahore on Tuesday.

His son, Haider Sultan, arranged the Quran Khwani for the departed soul. Sultan Rahi was shot dead by unidentified men 22 years ago in Gujranwala while he was coming to Lahore from Islamabad.

During his lifetime, he performed in hundreds of films, mostly Punjabi. His name was regarded as a guarantee of success of a Punjabi film.

An old friend of the late Rahi and a Punjabi storywriter, Ghulam Abbas alias Jhandi Khan, told media that the era of Punjabi films ended after the murder of Rahi.

Haider Sultan said on the occasion that the real killers of his father have still not been traced.

Muhammad Sultan Khan, known as Sultan Rahi has delivered some memorable films that include ‘Maula Jatt’, ‘Sher Khan’, ‘Chan Veryam’, ‘Kaley Chor’, ‘The Godfather’, ‘Basheeraa’ and ‘Wehshi Gujjar’. He established himself as one of the leading and most successful actors of Pakistani and Punjabi cinema and enjoyed the reputation of being Pakistan’s Clint Eastwood.
