Sufi Muhammad released by PHC order

PESHAWAR: Maulana Sufi Muhammad, the chief of banned Tehreek-e- Nafaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi (TNSM) was released on bail after the order of the Peshawar High Court on Monday due to his “unstable health”.

Counsel for Sufi Mohammad Fida Gul told the court that his client should be granted bail as he was suffering from various illnesses. A single bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmed heard the case.

It should be mentioned here that Sufi Mohammad led the foundation of TNSM in 1994.

He was imprisoned in 2001 by the Pakistan government. He was released in 2008 by the Awami National Party-led government in KP to smooth ways for peace agreement with TTP Swat chapter.

He was arrested again in 2009 after the military operation in Swat.
