QUETTA: At least three people were injured in a blast in Gwadar City on Wednesday evening.
Police officials said the improvised explosive device (IED) was planted in a motorcycle parked on the side of a road. The miscreants targeted three civilians on Gwadar Airport Road. The injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Gwadar for medical treatment. The blast also partially damaged shops located in the area.
Police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies reached the site of the blast and started their investigation.
Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri condemned the blast and directed the police to submit a report in this regard. “We would not bow down before terrorists targeting innocent civilians,” said Zehri, adding the perpetrators of the blast would be brought to justice.
Security was beefed up in and around Gwadar city after the blast.
Separately, FC personnel claimed to have gunned down a suspected terrorist and seizing weapons from a hideout during a search operation in Kohlu.
On a tip-off, the FC personnel raided a hideout in Kohlu on Wednesday. The suspected terrorists opened fire at the raiding party. The FC retaliated and gunned down one of the suspects. The FC also seized two SMGs and wireless sets.
In a separate operation, FC foiled a ‘major terrorist activity’ planned for the Turbat area.
“A huge cache of arms, explosives and ammunition, including rockets, IEDs, different types of weapons and communication equipment being stored in Goubard, 8 kms northeast of Mand, for terrorist activities in Turbat has been seized,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
Separately, Pakistan Rangers Punjab and police conducted joint search operations in Hafizabad, arresting at least 12 suspects.
