Student killed for sharing ‘blasphemous’ content on social media

MARDAN: A Media Studies student at Abdul Wali Khan University was shot to death and another was left wounded on charges of sharing ‘blasphemous’ content on social media, witnesses and police said on Thursday.

The university was shut down for an indefinite period after the violence. The hostels have also been vacated.

Mardan Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Alam Shinwari said that the student was accused of running Facebook pages which allegedly published blasphemous content.

He was assaulted by a group of students and appears to have succumbed to a gunshot wound, the DIG said.
