LAHORE: The first day of the eagerly-anticipated Pakistan Fashion Design Council Sunsilk Fashion Week 2017 began in the city at the Expo Centre on Thursday. Eleven designers showcased their distinct prêt collections on Day 1, complete with an exciting Bank Alfalah Rising Talent Show.

HSY

HSY opened Day 1 with his collection titled Paranoia. The designer showcased a strong collection with statement pieces. HSY took inspiration from today’s young generation that spins around technology. It featured both menswear and women wear pieces. The designer had all the international spring-summer trends of 2017 incorporated. We saw a lot of stripes done on different materials. We were stunned to see the accessories showcased. The iconic couturier sure gave us a collection that we can’t wait to include in our wardrobe.

Misha Lakhani

Misha Lakhani showcased a very understated collection titled Caravan. We saw rich fabrics and striking colour combinations. The collection was all about hand-woven, relaxed separates and sustainable luxury. She used feminine silhouettes. A breath of fresh air indeed! Our favourite piece was the beautifully-embroidered kaftan with mirror work. Simplicity at its best!

Saira Shakira

Saira Shakira were up next with their presented their Jie collection. The collection took inspiration from sporty forms and themes to give it a high fashion, luxury update. The designer duo stayed true to their fashion sense and presented a collection that had a feminine touch with clear lines. We saw a lot of whites with a pop of colour that added the extra edge to the look. The beautiful embellished pants were a treat to eyes. This collection surely scored very high on our list.

Bank Alfalah Rising Talent

Next up was the Bank Alfalah Rising Talent segment featuring upcoming designers Amna Sheikh, Asra Khalid, Kokab Alvi, Shahroz Tariq and Zainab Hamid.

Zonia Anwaar

Zelliij by Zonia Anwaar took its inspiration from mosaic lines and by the work of Maalems of the Moroccan Berber. The collection had interesting geometric patterned dresses. Zonia used bright colours and stunning embellishments to enhance the pieces. Monochromes were seen with a pop of fluorescent touch. The collection was bold and made an impact on the runway.

Generation

Generation by Khadijah Rahman took us back to those days when the sky used to be full of colourful kites. They captured the essence of the festival and showcased a beautiful collection that had something for every mood. We saw flowy and structured silhouettes. They had constructed outfits with sheer fabrics such as voiles, organza, striped cottons, hand pleated silks, poplin, cotton net and chamber, complete with cufflinks, buckles and buttons. Sitting through the fashion showcase was sheer joy. We can’t agree more with the fact that spring is incomplete without basant and so are our lives.

Sania Maskatiya

Sania Maskatiya closed Day 1 by introducing a new line dedicated to western wear titled ‘Sania Studio’. A lot of floral prints with trendy silhouettes were showcased. This one hit all the right notes. The botanical prints were predominating with a white and black base. We saw a variety of textures used. Our favourite were the separates that could take you from day to night in style.
