Famed chef Zubaida Apa passes away

KARACHI: Renowned chef and herbal do-it-yourself tips maestro Zubaida Tariq passed away late Thursday night, the family confirmed to media.

Zubaida was referred to as Apa, a title bestowed to sisterly elders by fans. She was a renowned chef and a household name for her eastern recipes and DIY tips in cooking, skincare, diet and weight loss etc.

She endorsed several brands including the controversial ‘whitening soap’ called Zubaida Apa Whitening Soap that promised buyers a ‘whitened’ skin.

Zubaida Apa passed away in Karachi on Thursday night.  She was 72 years of age, struck with Parkinson’s disease and cardiac ailment. Her fame on social media and television has made her a star for a long period of time in culinary skills and cooking advice. She had been a brand name on television in the history of Pakistan.

She became prominent in last decade of the previous century because of her home remedies known as “Totkas”. Her segments in culinary skill advices earned much fame on channels which made her popular across the borders. Her passion to acknowledge the domestic problems of people produced a soft corner in the minds of the public.

She surprisingly delved into finding solutions to problems of the public and made her way into hearts of millions of people in the country and abroad. Born in a family of writers and artists like Fatima Surraya Bajiya and Anwar Maqsood on April 4, 1945 in Hyderabad Daccan, Zubaida Aapa came to Pakistan along with her family as they fled to Karachi when Hyderabad Daccan state was overpowered by Indian army on 11TH September 1948.
