LARKANA: The Sindh Culture & Tourism Department has started repair work at the World Heritage site of Mohenjo Daro near here on Saturday to save the ancient monuments from coming monsoon rains from damaging.
Drainage system is being made to drain out rain water from Great Bath, Stuppa, SD area, L area and old rooms under the supervision of architect Naveed Ahmed Sangah. He told Media at Mohenjo Daro on Saturday that the repair work has been initiated on emergency basis for the first time on the direction & with the personal interest of Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah and Director General, Archaeology, Manzoor Ahmed Kanasro, so that the world-famous cultural site could be saved from probable damage from next monsoon rains.
He said that weak walls of the entire ruins will also be repaired in original form to save them from collapsing adding mud-capping and flooring will also be made to keep them in original shape. He said work will continue whole year. It must be mentioned here that during last monsoon rains all areas including great bath remained filled with rain water and rapid flow of water from high side to down even damaged the walls seriously and other areas which has now prompted the Culture Department to take timely efforts so that Sindh’s world-famous cultural monuments could be saved from destruction.
