Corporate giants fail to win a place among top 25 companies of PSX

KARCAHI: Some of Pakistan’s largest and apparently most successful companies didn’t perform well enough to win a place among top 25 companies of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) for 2016.

Notable for missing the mark in PSX’s ranking of top 25 companies in 2016 were Pak Suzuki Motor Company, Engro Corporation, GSK (GlaxoSmithKline), Bank Alflah and K-Electric.

The PSX has revealed names of top 25 companies among total 581 listed companies of total 35 sectors. Interestingly Pakistan’s most flourishing sector, banking, could obtain only one position in top five companies. Disappointingly, the textile sector having largest share in PSX with 154 companies listed able to get only one place in top 25 companies.

Big names, like Jubilee Insurance after failing to obtain place in 2015 top companies reclaimed its position in 2016 list while National Foods couldn’t get it place in top 25 companies this year. Rafhan Maize Products Company Limited represents food sector among the Top 25 companies.

Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited remained top company in PSX for the third consecutive year in 2016 after wining first place in 2014, and 2015.

Every year, the Exchange acknowledges the performance of the top companies on the basis of comprehensive criteria, which includes dividend payout, capital efficiency, profitability, free-float of shares, transparency & investors’ relation and compliance with listing of companies & securities regulations.

The awards given by the PSX to the top companies benefit the recipient companies by recognizing their excellent financial and managerial performance thereby providing them inter-alia a powerful marketing tool.

PSX has announced the names of top 25 Companies for the years 2016 that have been selected on the basis of highest score obtained as per the Criteria for Selection of Top Companies.

In order of their standing, the top 25 companies in 2016 include: Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited, Bank Al Habib Limited, Crescent Steel & Allied Products Limited, Archroma Pakistan Limited, Atlas Honda Limited, Security Papers Limited, Arif Habib Limited, United Bank Limited, Nestle Pakistan Limited, Pakistan International Container Terminal Limited, Colgate Palmolive Limited, JDW Sugar Mills Limited, Habib Metropolitan Bank Limityed, Cherat Packaging Limited, Indus Motor Company Limited, Feroz sons Laboratories Limited, Shifa International Hospitals Limited, Allied Bank limited, MCB Bank Limited, Kohinoor Textile Mills Limited, Atlas Battery Limited, Rafhan Maize Products Company Limited, Meezan Bank limited, and Jubilee Life Insurance limited.

The companies that were included in top 25 in 2015 but failed to retrieve their positions in top 25 corporate companies in 2016 were; Millat Tractors Limited, Pakistan Oilfields Limited, Service Industries Limited, Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim Limited, Dawood Hercules Corporation Limited, Bata Pakistan Limited, Dawood Lawrencepur Limited, Attock Petroleum Limited, Thal Limited, Attock Cement Pakistan Limited, Hinopak Motors Limited, Biafo Industries Limited, Habib Bank Limited and National Foods Limited.
