LAHORE: While rejecting a petition on formation of a shadow cabinet in federation and Punjab, Lahore High Court (LHC) has observed that the amendment in constitution is needed for formation of shadow cabinet and the court cannot interfere in this matter.
LHC judge Justice Atir Mahmood took up the petition for hearing. The petition was filed by advocate AK Dogar, seeking formation of a shadow cabinet in federation and Punjab on Monday.
During the course of hearing, Shiraz Zaka, counsel for Punjab Assembly opposition leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, said that the formation of a shadow cabinet without amendment in the constitution is not possible.
The petitioner, while praying to court, stated that shadow cabinet is necessary for maintaining check and balance; therefore the court should issue orders for its formation.
While rejecting the petition, LHC maintained that there is need to introduce an amendment in the constitution for the sake of formation of any shadow cabinet and court cannot interfere in this matter.
