Rana Afzal set to take charge of finance ministry

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker from Faisalabad Rana Afzal is set to take charge of Finance Ministry, almost a month after Ishaq Dar requested the prime minister to ‘relieve’ him of his duties.

Dar is receiving medical treatment in London and has been declared a proclaimed offended by an accountability court hearing corruption reference against him.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has approved the appointment of Rana Afzal as state minister for finance. The MNA is currently the parliamentary secretary for finance.

According to reports, the decision to appoint Rana Afzal was taken during a recent meeting between Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Nawaz Sharif.
