NA passes resolution condemning cold blooded murder of Mashal Khan

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution condemning the barbaric and cold blooded murder of Mashal Khan at Wali Khan University in Mardan.

On resuming its session in Islamabad with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair, Federal Minister Rana Tanvir Hussain moving the resolution demanded the federal and provincial governments to take strict action against the perpetrators and facilitators of this heinous act including those making hate speeches.

The resolution expressed the resolve to ensure that strong safeguards are inserted into the blasphemy law to prevent its abuse. It condemned all those who take law into their hands that result in the loss of innocent lives.

Responding to the points of the opposition leader, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab said the government believes in a strong democratic set up. He said we wanted continuation of the democratic system and strengthening of the parliament.

Khurshid Shah said opposition wants strong institutions including the judiciary. He said the government does not appear to be serious in addressing the problems being faced by the people. He expressed concerns over power outages and water shortage in the country.

He asked the government to address the problems of the nations. Pakistan People’s Party staged a walk out from the house over the disappearance of party’s workers. Proceedings of the house have been suspended due to the lack of quorum.
