Rulers putting citizens at risk to save their ‘corrupt cronies:’ PTI leader

KARACHI: The rulers of Sindh have not learned any lesson from the terrorist incidents in Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Sehwan and the recent case of medical student Noreen Laghari, and they are opposing the policing role of rangers for a lasting peace in Sindh just to save some of their corrupt cronies, said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh leader Haleem Adil Sheikh.

He said that the basic responsibility of the government is to provide safety and security to its citizens, but in the case of Sindh province, the rulers are least interested to discharge this sacred constitutional duty. He said that the rulers are opposing special powers to the rangers as they fear that some of their rotten eggs would be busted due to their patronage to the terrorism-corruption nexus in Sindh. He said to save some of their ‘dirty-handed boys’, the rulers are bent to jeopardize the very security and safety of whole Sindh province and its people.

He said it is an open secret that the Sindh police department is marred with corruption, political appointments and spectacular incompetency. He said that, though the police are also playing a limited role in fighting crime, but the real credit undoubtedly goes to the rangers who have proved their utility by bringing peace in Karachi and laid huge sacrifices for this national cause. He said that seeing the success of the Karachi operation model, the role of rangers should also be extended to the whole province to maintain a lasting peace in the cities, towns and villages of this province.

The PTI leader said that after every three months, we see a disgusting farce and fuss when the Sindh government dillydallies to extend the powers of the rangers for the next three months. He said that this drama should end now and a mechanism should be formed so that the rangers automatically get another extension in their policing role after every three months, even if the provincial government fails to timely approve their extension, till a lasting and satisfactory peace in maintained in whole province including Karachi. He said when it is matter of the peace and security of people, the petty political interests and grubby bargaining should be kept aside in the larger interest of the nation and country.
