LAHORE: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Maleeha Lodhi on Thursday said that Pakistan’s support to the Palestinian people remains unwavering “despite the threats that we have received in recent days.”

Addressing at UNGA, Lodhi said that Pakistan co-sponsored this resolution and will vote in favour of this landmark resolution to reject the US decision. “Pakistan stands firmly behind the Palestinian people and their just cause”, she said.

She said that support to the Palestinian cause and defence of Al-Quds has been a pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy. Our support remains unwavering despite the threats we have received in recent days.

“We find ourselves at one of the history’s turning points. The extraordinary developments of the past few weeks warrant an equally extraordinary response from us,” she said

She said that this parliament of the world is an appropriate platform to send a reassuring message to the oppressed people of Palestine, who have been losing hope in the effectiveness of the UN.

“Through the resolution that we adopted today, the rest of the world has clearly and unambiguously said that it cannot and will not be complicit in an illegal act,” She said.

“A viable Palestine within the pre-1967 borders and with Al-Quds as its capital remains the only sustainable plan. No other plan will succeed, no other plan will be acceptable for us,” she said, adding that Pakistan is “always on the side of Palestine.”

The General Assembly voted 128-9 with 35 abstentions to declare US President Donald Trump s declaration “null and void.”
