Early morning of Wednesday the teachers had gathered at Urdu Bazaar. The teachers came on streets of metropolis’ Burns Road, a sit-in protest for not being granted permanent status by the government despite being appointed since 2014.
The government teachers came on the streets as the Sindh government had asked to re-test of NTS although they have already been for three-year of their services as per the contract hence they should be regularized instead. During protest they were arrested and baton-charged by the police when they tried to move towards Sindh Secretariat.
Female teachers were also taken into custody by women police. Despite the baton charging and arrests, the teachers continued to stage their sit-in protest near Urdu Bazaar at Burns Road.
A four-member team of teachers met DC south and agreed to end the protest. The protesters said that if their demands were not fulfilled, they would stage a sit-in in front of the chief minister’s residence.
Around 150 teachers from the various districts of Sindh rolled up for the protest, chanting slogans against the government and demanding their rights.
According to sources teachers were planning to hold a sit-in protest in front of Sindh Secretariat, due to uncertain situation they changed their plan of action by holding protest at the Burns Road.
On other hand the provincial Education Minister Jam Mehtab’s statements came after teachers protesting that PPP government is not going to be the reason of unemployment. Mehtab extended six months agreement of teachers adding this he said that their salaries would be continues.
