Islam, Christianity promote peace, tolerance: PU VC

LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir has said that Islam and Christianity were the two great religions and both preach the lesson of peace and tolerance.

He was addressing the cake cutting ceremony organized by PU’s Christian community at Faisal Auditorium here on Wednesday. Member of National Assembly Ms Ayesha Gulalai, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof Dr Taqi Zahid Butt, Forman Christian College’s Department of History Chairman Prof Dr Farzand Masih, Prof Tony William, Saleem Masih, a large number of PU employees and their families were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said that we can determine our future in the light of teachings of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) and Hazrat Essa (AS). He said that the messages given by our prophets must be followed for the welfare of mankind. He said that minorities enjoyed equal rights in Pakistan and the Muslims and Christians were collectively working to bring prosperity in Pakistan.

MNA Ayesha Gulalai said that there was need to work together to promote peace and tolerance in Pakistan. Dr Taqi Zahid Butt condemned recent terrorist attack on a church at Quetta. He said that minorities in Pakistan were enjoying religious liberty. Later, PU VC Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir cut the cake to celebrate Christmas. Christian students also presented a tableau on the occasion.
