DIR: The residents of the Sheringal tehsil have condemned the removal of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) registrar and gave a week’s deadline to the varsity vice chancellor (VC) for reinstating him.

Speaking at a press conference in Dir, the elders and elected members said that the SBBU Sheringal VC had appointed non-locals, mostly his relatives and other near and dear ones, in the university without any merit. They said that the VC was further trying to recruit more people in the university by ignoring merit. They said that the varsity registrar had blocked the VC’s way and was opposing the recruitment without following rules and regulations, on which the VC removed the registrar.

They said that the sacked registrar, Badshah Hussain, had played a vital role in establishing the SBBU Sheringal. They said that now the VC had dismissed the varsity registrar without any legitimate reason and had appointed a junior officer on his seat. The elders said that various inquiries were already underway against the VC regarding corruption and illegal appointments in the varsity.

They said that the locals had given sacrifices in the establishment of the varsity, aimed at improving literacy rate in the locality, but the VC was now ignoring them while making appointments on low-scale posts by hiring non-locals there.

They said that the serving VC had also closed University Public Schools (UPSs) in the Doog Dara, Kalkot, Thal and Usheri Dara, due to which thousands of students were facing hardships and might quit their education.
