LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Tahirul Qadri on Tuesday demanded once again that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah step down by 31 December, in connection with the Justice Baqir Najfi Commission report on the Model town Incident.
“They should resign and surrender themselves to the authorities immediately,” said the PAT chief during a press conference in Lahore.
“They cannot get away easily after killing 14 people,” said Qadri referring to the 2014 model town tragedy that claimed the lives of at least 14 people and left several injured.
He said he would announce his next strategy if his demands were not fulfilled by Dec 31.
After the release of the Model Town Inquiry Commission report, several key politicians, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, Pakistan Peoples Party(PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Pak Sarzameen Party(PSP) Chief Mustafa Kamal, have thrown their weight behind the Qadri’s demand.
However, Rana Sanaullah has rejected the call for his resignation, saying only Nawaz Shairf can ask him to quit.
