KARACHI: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has been unable to provide complete Google maps of Karachi to six census district officials (CDOs) at the commencement stage of 6th national census 2017.
A high level meeting of census officials with Rizwan Memon, Chief Secretary Sindh in chair was informed that 104 new blocks have been included, which had been missing at the initial stage of census.
These missing maps were of some parts of Nehray Khayyum Clifton, Civil Lines, Lyrai, Bin Qasim Korangi, Malir, Hawksbay, Surjani, Orangi and Gadap areas.
Following corrective measures, one to 20 sub-blocks have been extended and included in the 14,448 blocks in city area.
PBS staff made a joint survey and the its result 104 blocks were added in civil lines and Lyari sub-division, and notified by PBS.
It is pertinent to mention here that census data of first phase started from March 15 to April 14, 2017 has not been presented at the meeting, disclosed an official of Sindh government on condition of anonymity.
For the readdressing of complaints and bottlenecks that had been cropped up at the first phase of census in Karachi , it has now been tasked to task force teams working in parts of Karachi.
It has decided to inform the general public through electronic media that in case if any unit of the city has not been visited by census staff members, they could lodge the report in this regard via helpline by April 20, 2017.
Census related materials of first phase in Sindh including Karachi would be handed over to PBS under Army supervision.
National Census Apex Committee, Census Operation Committee under federal government and provincial census committee, divisional coordination committee, district coordination and census district Taluka committee has monitored the census activities in Sindh.
Under ongoing second census phase, census work has been underway on 20,838 blocks, 2,244 circles and 470 charge. This includes six divisions of Sindh, including 29 districts and 146 sub divisions of Taluka.
