Sir: The prices of broiler chicken are increasing day by day. According to the Sindh Essential Commodities Price Control and Prevention and Profiteering and Hording Act 2005, chicken meat is an essential commodity.
The prices are not being checked regularly by Karachi’s Assistant Commissioners, as well as by the Controller-General of Prices, who is commissioner of Karachi. Previously, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui was the commissioner for consumers.
On February 23, 2017, the price of chicken was Rs156 per kg and its meat was being sold at Rs242 a kg. Today chicken is being sold at Rs 210 per kg and meat is being sold at Rs 346 per kg. The huge difference is due to inefficiency of the departments and non-availability of consumer courts.
