Karachi: Pakistani not-for-profit organisation ChildLife has won all three awards in a poster presentation held at the Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine (ESEM) Conference 2017 in Dubai.

ChildLife’s posters that secured the first three positions were among 89 posters presented at the event this year. The themes of the top three posters were: Using the Short Messaging Service (SMS) for Behaviour Change in an Emergency Room setting; Convention of Short-Messaging-Service as a Tool to Improve Patient Satisfaction in Emergency Rooms; and Combine Therapy of Omeprazole and Ranitidine in Pediatric Emergency Department. ChildLife had also participated in the event last year with 12 research abstracts on topics like Telemedicine in Public Sector Hospitals and Post Discharge Patient Outcome. Dr. Irfan Habib, the head of clinical affairs at ChildLife Foundation, also conducted a workshop on ‘Root Cause Analysis – Mortality and Morbidity Meetings’. A statement released on the occasion noted that with three successful and rapidly growing editions and more than 1,100 delegates, over 30 participating countries, and an exceptional scientific programme delivered by over 100 reputable local and international speakers, the ESEM was fast becoming the largest and best emergency medicine conference in the Middle East. This year, the themes explored at the conference were related to pre-hospital care, trauma, toxicology, disaster medicine, pediatric EM, emergency nursing, simulations, public health, research updates and other sub branches related to the field of emergency medicine. The ESEM has become the largest Emergency Medicine Conference in the region attended by thousands of delegates from all over the world. The participation criteria require that all abstracts must be submitted in English using the online submission form on the ESEM website. ChildLife Foundation is a not-for profit organisation committed to the delivery of quality urgent medical care to children. ChildLife began its operations in October 2011 by renovating the pediatric ER at Civil Hospital, Karachi. In May 2013, ChildLife Foundation was invited by the administration of National Institute of Child Health to support their pediatric ER. In June 2016, ChildLife’s third pediatric ER at Sindh Government Hospital Korangi-5 became operational. To-date, ChildLife Foundation’s three emergency rooms have treated more than 1.6 million children free of cost. The current Telemedicine programme at these three ERs results in saving at least one additional life per hour.
