KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said that the biggest issue facing Karachi was its inefficient policing.

He said this during a ceremony held at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

He said that 17,000 policemen were involved in criminal activities in Sindh. “How it is possible that a country will progress when its leadership is corrupt?” he asked.

Later, he addressed another event hosted by lawyers at the Karachi Bar Association.

“After the disqualification of a powerful prime minister, Pakistan has changed forever,” he said.

The PTI chief said that justice for all was his objective. “Justice is not only for the rich. Lawlessness is seen at every corner of our country. Our country may not be economically strong if there is no law and order,” he said.

He also said that the law should protect the weak against the powerful. “Democracy persists when there is rule of law. When Mian Sahib was taken to the court, a message was sent to the corrupt mafia that they are going to be the next,” he said.

“When Nawaz Sharif was a powerful man he thought that he could never be held accountable. He only thought about his property and wealth and not about the citizens of the country. We did our best to hold him accountable. We will never surrender. We will never step back. We are not cowards,” he said.

Later, Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chief Mustafa Kamal telephoned Imran Khan and discussed the ongoing political situation. Both leaders also talked about various steps for the development of the country and vowed to stand for the relief of the people. Imran Khan and Mustafa Kamal had pledged to support Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Tahirul Qadri over Model Town massacre. They said they would join PAT workers if they staged protests against the Punjab government.

Mustafa Kamal had said that everyone was busy in saving the government and no one was working for the country.
