Sammu, What Do You Like Most?

Author: Fazal Baloch

Sammu, what do you like most?

The redolent morning breeze

Every day

That blows across the land

Heart of the evening

Shaped out of clouds

Sammu, what do you say?

If I place the moon

In your window

Sammu what do you like most?

If a boat,

I carve out of a star

Along with moist-laden whispers of the ocean

Would you sail towards me?

Sammu what do you like most?

My desperate heart,

Now-a-days,

Asks me to mould your beauty into a song

And cast it to the flock of evening birds

And hearken the melancholy birds chanting for you

Sammu what do you like most?

The fragrant morning breeze

Heart of the evening

Window of the moon

The boat, carved out of a star

Or the song of your beauty

Chanted by the birds

Sammu what do you like most?

This is the translated version of a Balochi poem written by Munir Momin
