LAHORE: Lawyers in Multan stormed the building of the new judicial complex on Wednesday and smashed its doors and mirrors.
The new judicial complex on Mattital Road started functioning on November 14. The lawyers complained that the building does not house their chambers and they had to work in the lawns instead.
The protests started on Tuesday and continued on Wednesday when the lawyers forcefully entered the building despite the police’s efforts of restraining them and vandalised it by smashing its windows and mirrors with sticks.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that negotiations would be held with the lawyers since their demands were justified.
The construction of the new judicial complex began in 2005 after the Asian Development Bank granted a loan. When the complex started functioning in November, the lawyers protested outside the Lahore High Court Multan Bench building and boycotted the court proceedings.
