All set for census in Sukkur division

KHAIRPUR: All arrangements have been finalized regarding the 1st phase of the houses and population census in Sukkur division.

According to details, the 1st phase of houses and population census which began from April 25th in he Sukkur division – has been finalised for the districts of Khairpur, Sukkur and Ghotki.

In Khairpur, 1794 blocks were formed with 1271 civilians, 2063 members of the armed forces, and 1970 police officers performing their duties in all eight talukas. These include Khairpur, Gambat, Sobhodero, Kotdiji, Naro, Tharimirwah, and Faiz Gunj.

Meanwhile in Ghotki district, which is a part of the Sukkur region, around 1,181 policemen, 23 police cars, and 42 motorcycles were deployed, according to Sukkur DIG Syed Feroze Shah. This was in order to monitor the process of the population census. Two monitoring cells – one each in Ghotki and Sukkur – have been established, while arrangements have been finalised for the second phase of the population census which is scheduled to start from April 25.

In this regard, the DIG also visited all the police stations throughout Sukkur and Khairpur districts to check the wireless communication network and later submitted a report to the Sindh IG regarding shortcomings and suggestions to make the process foolproof. Additionally, the DIG also ordered police officers from Sukkur and Khairpur to monitor the process of the population census in Ghotki district, which would prove helpful for them in the second phase of the census in their own districts.

The staff have been fully trained for the census and will provide material according to their duties on April-22 to April-23 (from today). Crucially, security has been tightened in all three districts.
