ISLAMABAD: Following the Panama Papers case verdict, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Friday announced a protest rally in Islamabad on April 28 to demand resignation from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“They didn’t allow me to speak in parliament… next Friday, we are going to hold a rally in Islamabad and we will continue to demand Nawaz’s resignation,” Imran told reporters outside the National Assembly.

The PTI chief said comments made by judges of the Supreme Court against the prime minister were historic. “Whatever happened in the Supreme Court yesterday never happened in Pakistan before.”

Earlier, the joint opposition staged a walkout from the Lower House of parliament in protest after the PTI leader was not given a chance to address lawmakers by the deputy speaker. Lawmakers in Senate also staged a walkout after urging the PM to resign.

“What happened today is the reason why I think twice before coming to parliament,” Imran lamented. “What kind of democracy is this… in which I can’t speak in parliament?”

He said that two senior judges of the SC had disqualified Nawaz over dishonesty. “The SC has already said that the national institutions have failed to perform their duties, so how will they act against him in the JIT?” he questioned.
