KARACHI: The Shareh e Noor Jahan Police detained a teenage youth in suspicion of street crime and released him after severe torture.
People of the area gathered around the police station and started a protest against police officers who were involved in his illegal detention and torture and demanded an enquiry against them.
Family of young boy who was picked-up by the police have told that 19 years old Mohammad Asad a resident of North Nazimabad was coming home with his friend Irfan on Thursday night and near the ship owner college the police picket of Shahra-e-Noorjahan Police Station took Asad in their custody and shifted him to police station where he was brutally tortured and the policemen kept asking him about the names of his friends . He tried to convince police that he was not a street criminal but they did not believe in him and tortured him with their belt.
The family and relatives of Asad after receiving the information of his arrest reached the police station and inquired about the reason for his arrest. The police initially denied about his presence in the station but when they started to protest on a huge scale a police officer came out and tried to cool them down and handed over Asad to them.
There were marks of sever torture on Asad’s body. The family of the victim demanded an enquiry against the policemen who were involved in that brutal act but DSP Naeem Sannata while taking favor of his sub-ordinates is trying to camouflage this matter.
On the other hand SHO, Abdul Ghaffar Sindhu has informed that police misunderstood Asad as a street criminal because when he taken into custody, their were reports of two street criminals who had looted many citizens and the police was after them. Unfortunately at the same time Aasd was in the area and he got apprehended with his friend; but the SHO denied any torture on Asad.
