LAHORE: An accountability court declared former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar an absconder on Monday for failing to appear for a trial in a corruption reference against him.
Dar was also ordered by the court to submit surety bonds within three days otherwise his assets would be seized.
Ishaq has been in London since last month for medical treatment.
During the hearing on Monday, his lawyer Advocate Qausain Faisal Mufti submitted a new medical report to avoid getting his client declared an absconder.
Mufti said that Dar could not appear for the proceedings because he was in London suffering from chest pain and a minor issue in a coronary artery.
The prosecution said that Ishaq was not suffering from any medical issues because his medical reports differed from one another.
Mufti argued that NAB had not verified the medical reports. He also said that he was waiting for more reports.
When Mufti argued that the non-bailable arrest warrants were sent to his client’s residence in Lahore, the prosecution said that Dar was aware of the proceedings against him.
Advocate Qazi Misbah’s request for presenting arguments on Dar’s behalf was also rejected by the court on the basis of him not being Dar’s lawyer.
Dar’s guarantor Ahmad Ali Qudusi was told by the court to present Dar within three days and to to submit Rs 500,000 for Dar’s bail.
Dar has been accused of possessing assets beyond his known source of income.
