LAHORE: Reportedly, more than 24,807 cases of dengue fever have been confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in 2017.
On October 26, World Health Organisation (WHO) reported that out of 87,250 suspected cases of dengue fever in KP, 18,892 were confirmed by laboratories. WHO also reported 58 deaths from the disease including the 53 deaths registered in Peshawar district where 78,844 suspected cases were reported and 16,991 confirmed.
On November 12, WHO reported that 24,807 cases were confirmed in KP while the death toll had increased to 69.
WHO said that it was collaborating with the provincial health department to provide support to the health workers in KP. Awareness campaigns were held in the province and larvicide was also sprayed in different areas of Peshawar.
The outbreak in KP is worse than the 2011 dengue fever outbreak in Punjab where about 21,204 cases were confirmed.
