CHITRAL: Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Shahzada Iftikharuddin on Saturday urged the people to exercise restraint in the wake of Shahi Masjid incident, where a mob attacked a man for allegedly uttering blasphemous remarks.

“The accused has been arrested and he would be punished in accordance with the law of the land,” he said.

“The first information report (FIR) has been lodged at the Chitral Police Station and the law will certainly take its course,” he added.

Through a statement, he said that there were reports that the man involved was working in Qatar a few months back and was sent back to Pakistan after developing some mental illness.

He urged the people to stay calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and play their national duty of maintaining law and order. He appreciated the role of religious leaders in coping with the situation.
