Younis Khan quashes retirement U-turn rumours

KARACHI: Pakistan’s leading Test run-scorer Younis Khan has dismissed rumours that he is reconsidering his decision to retire after the conclusion of the Caribbean series.

The legendary batsman, who has 9977 runs to his name in Test cricket, followed captain Misbah-ul-Haq in announcing that the three-match series against the Windies, which started on Friday, would be his last.

But he cast some doubt over that when he appeared to leave the door open to changing his mind, saying in an interview this week that he “will think about it”.

However, the 39-year-old moved to clarify his intentions with a self-shot video published by local media on Sunday.

“There is a lot of speculation that perhaps I am taking back my decision to retire from Test cricket. There is no truth to this,” he said.

“My decision to retire from Test cricket is final.

“I will not take back my retirement even if I score a century in every innings during the West Indies series.”

Younis is just 23 runs shy of becoming the first Pakistani player to score 10,000 runs.

He has scored 34 centuries in a glittering Test career and another seven in one-day internationals.
