NEW DELHI: China might be bidding to be one oriental super-power but it is no better than a rookie when it comes to playing cricket.
In an ICC World Cricket League match of the Asia Region Division One, China v Saudi Arabia at Chiang Mai, Saudi Arabia beat China by 390 runs, media reported on Sunday.
The Saudi’s batted first and put up a total of 418 runs in their 50 overs.
Mohammad Afzal scored a brilliant 120 of just 100 deliveries and Shoaib Ali fired a brilliant 91 of just 46 deliveries.
China themselves contributed to the total by giving 28 extras, bowling 24 wides.
In response China was bundled out for only 28 runs, registering the lowest score. The previous record was held by Zimbabwe when they were bowled out for 35 runs by Sri Lanka in Harare.
China lasted for only 12.4 overs. Ibrarul Haq, Imran Arif and Shahbaz Rasheed picked up 3 wickets a piece and one batsman was ‘retired hurt’.
