LAHORE: Chinese government, on Friday, warned its citizens to stay alert due to the possibility of attacks against them in Pakistan.

The Chinese Embassy published intelligence reports on its website regarding a “series of terror attacks” planed against Chinese nationals. It did not provide any further details and added that China has asked its citizens in Pakistan to stay in their homes.

In June, Islamic State (IS) took responsibility for the kidnapping of a Chinese couple who was later killed in Quetta.

China has invested a whopping $60 billion to build infrastructure under Beijing’s “Belt and Road” initiative. The insurgents have been targeting people to sabotage China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project in Balochistan.

The government is making efforts to root out anti-China militants to secure CPEC and Islamabad has also promised Beijing to deploy troops for the protection of Chinese citizens.
