ISLAMABAD: The accountability court hearing corruption references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against sacked prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family as a result of the Supreme Court’s Panama Papers verdict resumed proceedings here in the capital on Thursday.

Today’s hearing is being conducted by Accountability court Judge Mohammad Bashir regarding the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case and Hill Metals Establishment reference.

As proceedings resumed, Nawaz’s legal representative Ayesha Hamid objected to the inclusion of a woman namely Noreen Shahzad in the witnesses list, stating that she was not included in the witnesses list handed by NAB.

Ayesha’s plea stated that as Shahzad was not included in the above mentioned list, her documents cannot be part of the case.

NAB prosecutor, while opposing the plea said that Noreen Shahzad is not appearing as a ‘main witness’ and mentioned that she is just providing additional records while the main witness is Tayyab Ahmed.

Judge Mohammad Bashir, dismissed Ayesha Hamid’s plea and instructed for the documents provided by Shahzad to be included in the reference.

Earlier the accountability court judge had reserved his decision regarding Ayesha Hamid’s plea that raised objections against Shahzad’s documents.

The corruption reference case hearing is under way.

It is pertinent to mention here that Nawaz  flew to London via Doha through a flight QR-629 accompanied by daughter Maryam Nawaz and granddaughter Mahnoor . The family is visiting ailing Kulsoom Nawaz who is undergoing treatment for lymphoma at a London hospital.

Members of the former first family of Pakistan are to spend a few days in their posh Mayfair residence after an accountability court exempted Nawaz Sharif from making an appearance in the ongoing hearings for a week.
