KARACHI: Police have booked on Tuesday a Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan legislator for attacking media representatives and the Karachi Development Authority officials and personnel during an encroachment drive in District Central.
The two separate cases were registered against member provincial assembly (MPA) Haji Anwar Raza and others for attacking the KDA officials and media representatives. Both the cases were registered at Samanabad police station.
An FIR No. 182/17 was registered on behalf of KDA additional director and FIR No. 183/17 was registered against member provincial assembly Haji Anwar Raza and others on behalf of private news channel bureau chief Zegham Rizvi at Samanabad police station. The police have implicated the multiple sections of Pakistan Penal Code for creating law and order and attacking the KDA and media representatives. The sections included 147, 148, 149, 427, 337A, 353, 504/34.
“There are clear directions of Supreme Court. The marriage hall was illegally constructed on playground,” said the complainant KDA official. “I along with my team members went to demolish the Haryali Marriage Hall on court’s directions when we came under attack.” He said that MPA Raza and others first abused the KDA team and later they attacked and also injured three of the KDA team members.
Also, the private news channel’s complainant also in his statement said that his team members also came under attack while they were busy in media coverage, adding that the MPA and his men attacked the snatched and broken the cameras and also beaten them up.
Police officials said that the cases against the MPA and others have been registered, adding that the police also launched an immediate action against the suspects and arrested nearly half of a dozen suspects including one of the nominated suspects Abbas alias Mammu and initiated further investigations.
