LAHORE: The Supreme Court’s verdict in Panamagate echoed in the Punjab Assembly on Monday when treasury and opposition benches backed the decision by shouting slogans against each other.

The opposition tried to move its already submitted resolution to seek Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation but the speaker said that as per Rule 115, the resolution must be filed 14 days before to table it into the house. On this situation, initially, the opposition held a protest demonstration before the Speaker’s desk and then boycotted the session.

On the other hand, taking advantage of the absence of the opposition, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah moved a counter resolution in favour of Nawaz from the treasury bench that was allowed by the speaker without any hesitation which later passed the house without any opposition.

The treasury members shouted pro-Nawaz slogans.

The resolution stated, “The House showed full confidence on the active and wise leadership of PM Mian Nawaz Sharif. The PM had played a vital role to tackle energy crisis, to control law and order situation and to eradicate terrorism in the country.”

The resolution also read that now all the political parties should focus on next general elections 2018 and allow the PM to work for development of the country.
