Shashi Kapoor dies at 79

LAHORE: Veteran Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor has died, aged 79, after a prolonged illness.

Kapoor, who died today, had been suffering from a kidney disease and had been undergoing dialysis for many years.

Shashi Kapoor began his career as a child actor in his brother Raj Kapoor’s films Aag and Awaara.

He has many hit films on his credit such as Sharmilee, Namak Halaal and Pyar Kiye Jaa. He acted as a co-star along with Amitabh Bachchan in some of the biggest blockbuster movies of 1970s and 1980s like Deewar, Shaan, Namak Halal, Kabhi Kabhie and Do Aur Do Paanch.

Kapoor, who appeared in more than 150 films, won several national film awards and also awarded with Padma Bhushan civilian honour by the Indian government in 2011.

Messages of condolences have started pouring on social media.

Indian President Kovind has also twitted to pay a tribute to the legendary actor.
