KARACHI: Mehrin Ilahi, former senior vice president of Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Karachi East has been elected as president of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KWCCI). She got nine votes out of 14.
Challenging manipulation in results, she approached Commerce Ministry (Trade Organisations director general); and after fresh elections, she was elected unopposed. Commerce Ministry controls chambers and trade organisations. KWCCI focuses on woman entrepreneurs in Pakistan to give them voice and provide them a platform of opportunity, strength and growth. It desires to create an environment in which women entrepreneurs can achieve their potential as part of an effective sector. It encourages entrepreneurship to achieve success and economic growth.
