ECP angry at Kaptaan for ignoring it

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) showed anger as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan did not respond in a contempt case.

The commission asked Kaptaan’s lawyer to inform him to withdraw his statement and tender an unconditional apology until May 8.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sardar Raza Khan and four members of the commission heard the case. During the proceedings, the commission sought written arguments from the lawyer of Akbar S Babar, the petitioner in the case.

The ECP bench once again sought reply from the skipper as well as details of PTI’s bank accounts regarding money transferred from abroad, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and the United Arab Emirates since July 2010. On April 4, the ECP said that if Kaptaan’s response was not submitted until the next hearing (today), then the commission would write that the PTI chief had nothing to say. Babar, a sacked PTI leader, had filed the contempt petition against the PTI chief. Sources privy to the development are of the view that Babar was playing in the hands of PML-N leadership.
