LAHORE: Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique has asked the army to stay away from politics.
He was addressing a gathering at the launch ceremony of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) dissident member and senior politician Javed Hashmi’s book “Zinda Tareekh” on Sunday.
“The army should stay away from politics and controversies” he said, adding that there was a huge difference between the army’s professional and political roles.
“We will not accept few people deciding the country’s fate,” he said.
The supremacy of the constitution can never be compromised, he went on to say.
Commenting on the Hashmi’s decision of re-joining Paksitan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), he said that the political parties must give value to veteran politicians.
Hashmi has parted ways with PTI after accusing Imran Khan of staging 2014 Islamabad Dharna on army’s direction.
Now, he is expected to meet Nawaz Sharif on Monday to announce his decision of re-joining PML-N formally.
