ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has appointed Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat as vice chief of naval staff, with immediate effect. Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat, after completion of initial training at Britannia Royal Navy College Dartmouth, was commissioned in June 1982. He has had a distinguished career with wide ranging command and staff experience. His command appointments include commanding officer of Type-21 ship, 25th Destroyer Squadron commander, Combined Task Force 151 commander, Central Punjab/ Commandant PN War College and Pakistan fleet commander. His important staff appointments include naval warfare & operational plans director, principal secretary to chief of naval staff, naval staff (operations) deputy chief and naval staff (projects) deputy chief. The admiral has also served as defence attaché of Pakistan in Qatar. Before being appointed as vice chief of naval staff, Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat was serving as chief of staff (operations) at NHQ Islamabad. Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat is a graduate of National Defence University, Islamabad and Armed Forces College, Turkey. For his services, the admiral has been awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military).
