KARACHI: The Sindh Local Government Department, under the directives of Jam Khan Shoro, Minister Sindh Local Government would import earth and filth removing machinery worth Rs 400 million from France, officials of Municipal Services Department Karachi Metropolitan Corporation have informed.

The Sindh government has also gifted, a Chain Executor machine, to MSD KMC capable of penetrating deep into filth water for removing debris and garbage.

At present, the machine is operating to remove garbage and filth deposited into Gujjar Nallah.

After the arrival of import of crawler hydraulic excavators, libeler excavators, digger, crawler excavators, new poetry, blade, leveling boom, medium coupler, quick auxiliary hydraulics rock drill and engine enclosures machines, would be handed over to KMC department.

The LGD and MSD KMC are divided on 20 nallahs’ de-silting issue as around eight to ten private contractors have also been busy on de-silting jobs at different nallahs inKarachi.

It creates a great confusion between the two parties that how to deliver good in this respect and on the other hand, private contractors have been engaged as they bring their own machinery for doing the job.

Meanwhile, on the directives of Waseem Akhtar Mayor Karachi, last year’s deferred funds of Rs 150 million out of Rs 450 million from Sindh government, is going to be used for removing filth deposits in nallahs and cleaning of drains in parts of city, Masood Alam, senior Director MSD KMC revealed.

During the previous year, Rs 225 million had been spent on this job while Rs 80 million had been used for the removal of encroachment and cleaning of Gujjar Nullah.

After maintaining and removal of solid and semi solid deposits into the beds of city’s nallahs during the past six months, MSD KMC has failed to comply their job and now nallahs and sewage water drainage system in city have become nuisance for the citizens.

The present conditions of nallahs and sewage drain system has once again become agony for the citizens as these civic facilities have been saturated on negligent cleaning responsibilities of the concerned civic body.

The civic authority even did not bother to carry out the follow up process of the job and that is why overflowing gutters in different parts of city and the overflowing sewerage water from the brims of nallahs during recent rains has fully exposed the performance of the civic entity.

Khalid Mahmood Sheikh, Finance Adviser KMC was of the view that at least five to ten years contract of cleaning and maintaining of nallahs should be given to private contractors. “In this way we can supervise work of contractors on regular basis and even they can be questioned on their negligence”.

It is worth mentioning here that despite the so-called cleaning of Lalabad Nallah, Industrial Area Nallah, 1200 Road Nallah, Chakora Nallah, Azeem Pura Nallah, Golden Town 10,000 Road Nallah, Mehran Highway Nallah, Mehmoodabad Akhtar Colony Nallah PECHS, Wars Shah Nallah Manzoor Colony Nallah, Songal Nallah, Zehri House Nallah, Soldier Bazaar Nallah, braches of Hijrat Colony Nallah, Frere Nallah (Glass Tower), Nehr-e-Khayam Nallah, 7,000 Road, 42,000 Road, 9,000 Road, Gujjar Nallah, Orangi Nallah, Shershah Nallah, Hub River Nallah, Haroonbad Nallah, Mouchko Nallah, Mehran City Nallah, Pehalwan Goth Nallah and Bhattiabad Nallah, a have been once again filled with garbage and debris on the discontinuation of work by concerned civic bodies.
