WMC holds training course for wannabe journalists

HYDERABAD: Speakers at media training were of the opinion that training with help of tools and techniques in a systematic manner in professionalism is the necessity of today’s era and such innovative steps in the field of media market are fruitful to enhance real approach of studying students.

Women Media Centre (WMC) organised five-day training course entitled ‘Census Results and Political Implications on Electoral Process’ in collaboration with National Endowment for Democracy (NED) at University of Sindh Jamshoro.

Prof Dr Badar Soomro, Chairman Media and Communication Studies said that participants should get much and more benefit from such professional practitioners.

Senior journalist and visiting faculty Sohail Sangi briefly described about the worth of such practices in the field of media. Training is mainly introduced as orientation and steps of WMC is highly appreciated in departmental approach.

More than 20 female and 10 male students from Media and Communication Studies Department participated in interactive and informative training.

Trainer and senior journalist Qazi Asif said, “I am pleased to be with such innovative and creative approached students and would like to heartily thank to concern head of department and relevant faculty members who encouraged and offered us to be with them”.

However, training was divided into different segments included lectures, sessions and field work.

Delivering the lecture on basic techniques of script writing of electronic media, Qazi Asif said that screen of television channel is based on journalistic language and particular terms like logo, timing and tickers.

He said that writing a package begins long before you get back to the newsroom, while you are out in the field of gathering your story, you should be thinking of how your package will be put together.

In media industry median are used to talk in technical language, like lower thread, upper ticker, two dimension, date line and many other basic norms where from uplifting media practitioners need to get grip.

He stressed that while writing script for electronic media use understandable language because your traffic on channels is local people too, be explicit in writing style and clear each and every sentence with brief description, because it is not necessary that from viewer is well aware from the things which you are going to portray.

Replying on the question he described about VOX-POP that in very short period reporter have to design a theme in his or her mind that on a particular diameter they have to collect data with relevant matter.

On the second lecture entitled ‘camera techniques and handling’, Muhammad Farooq, senior Producer for South Asia and Cameraman AP said that there were some segments before go through for the practice of video shooting and capturing the moments for footages were ethics of shooting, planning of shoot, audio balancing, planning and zoom in, sequence of shots and framing and composing discussed in this session.

The participants visited Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Hyderabad office for field work to get information about the results of census and current scenario of their framework and arranged a meeting with renowned intellectual and writer Jami Chandio, Centre for Peace and Civil Society (CPCS) and discussed about the demography of Pakistan, policies of state and cultural diversity.

Participants recorded their peace to camera (PTC) with voice over (VO) and SOTs on given topic for training lesion learn evolution and later on such all stuff were displayed on screen.

Nagina Parveen, Dean Faculty of Social Science said that steps taken for the enhancing approach are notable and remarkable. “Training is the sense of polish for skills”, she said.

At the end of the training workshop participants were rewarded by the token of appreciation by dean faculty of Social Science University of Sindh Jamshoro, chairman media and communication studies department and other faculty members.
