MANSEHRA: A Chinese national who is an engineer working on a project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Baffa embraced Islam on Tuesday.
Alolai, a Chinese engineer working at the Civil Hospital in Baffa area recited kalima at a local mosque to become a Muslim.
Maulana Lal Hussain Shah, the imam of the mosque, suggested Abdullah as the Islamic name of the Chinese national.
“I am very much impressed by the brotherhood of Muslims and their way to pay respect and homage to a dead person before burial,” Abdullah told reporters.
He said that he used to see people coming to offer Namaz-i-Janaza of the dead persons at the Civil Hospital’s garden and used to inquire about that ritual from the doctors at the hospital.
“Mr Abdullah has been studying Islam since his posting here almost three years ago. Now he is a practicing Muslim,” Shafqat Javed, a local told reporters.
It is apparently the first known case of a Chinese national working in a CPEC-linked project to convert
to Islam.
