Tarakai shares good news with diabetic patients

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Health and Information Technology Shahram Khan Tarakai has said that the KP government will extend “Insulin for Life Program” for the diabetic patients and will proposed budget in the upcoming budget of financial year for 2017-18.

This he said on Tuesday in a program of Diabetes Treatment &Life Style Knowledge (D-Talk) organized by department of Diabetes & Endocrinology Hayatabad Medical Complex here in a local hotel at Peshawar.

Shahram Khan said that around 2.2 million people living with diabetes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that the government focus on prevention and educate people about diabetes disease and its prevention measure’s.

He informed that the project was started in October 2015 till April 2017 while around 6,500 patients were given free insulin across the province.

He added that the government will plane to include diabetes awareness session in academia as well as in curriculum, adding that soon the education department will take in loop to include health education in curriculum that we will save our next generation from this alarming disease of diabetes.

On the occasion project director Dr. A. H. Amir said that around 6.7 million people are diabetic in Pakistan while around 2.2 million people are living with diabetes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He further added that the KP government has announced Diabetes Task Force in 2015 to look after the disease and providing free insulin to the patients and also in six districts through a donor free medicine to the patients.

He informed that the provincial task force took initiative to do the situation analysis and did prevalence survey of diabetes almost after 20 years, adding that the survey was done on 6,000 general populations in district Haripur and Karak.

He informed that the survey reveal that 19.2 prevalence of diabetes which means that every 6th person is diabetic; adding that around 13 % are pre-diabetic patients and if necessary steps were not taken those people were also became diabetic patients.

He informed that around 46.5 % undiagnosed people, 41,00 news cases were reported in an hour,810 deaths ,kidney failure 120 and blindness 55 people across the Globe.

Dr A H Amir said and accepted that we have so far failed to prevent diabetes , adding that the diabetes patients is increasing day by day in the province and the data of patients is alarming, adding that we need to focus on prevention and precautionary measures.

He informed and advice to take proper diet and make habit of daily exercise which can prevent us from diabetes, adding that the government and public schools should provide playgrounds to the children in school that they can physical involved in exercise. On the occasion Deputy Speaker KP Professor Dr. Mehar Taj Roghani, District Health Officer Peshawar Professor Dr. Shabina Raza, Secretary Education and other high official were present.
