I never wanted to be a fashion designer. What drew me to it was simply my passion for fashion, which gave me a chance to express my creative side. As a result, my designs were appreciated by masses. It has been a decade now since my journey in fashion began.
What has been the best advice you ever received that helped you grow personally and professionally?
Critics are a part of life, especially in fashion and entertainment, however the key to success is staying focused and achieving your goals. When you really want something for yourself, there is no stopping you. I usually abide by and give such advice.
Which is the most iconic trend for men ever created?
A classic plain black sherwani! It is simple yet elegant, which is a trendsetter, as exemplified by Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
What is your take on Pakistan’s fashion industry?
It has come a long way from where it all began, and definitely has a lot of potential for the future as well, given that our designers are being represented internationally. They have done our nation proud! So I am very hopeful about Pakistan’s fashion industry.
Why do you think fashion designers, particularly men, are stereotyped in Pakistan?
Fundamentalism has been a major cause since the beginning of the industry but it is far better and accepting of male designers today.
You were recently nominated for a Hum Style Award. How does it feel like to get recognised for your hard work?
It felt great to be nominated among designers such as Sheru. It only shows that hard work pays off in the end, motivates and pushes me to perform better. Insha Allah, I will win this award one day.
What are your upcoming projects?
During winter and wedding season, we will be working on our bridal collection for men and also planning on introducing customised bomber jackets. I am really looking forward to these trends.
Which, according to you, are the best and the worst trends of all time?
The best trend of all time has always been a classic black tux look, which brings out the elegance and charm of a true gentleman. I believe the worst trend is the era of baggy pants.
What is your latest spring collection for men?
My 2017 spring collection consisted of bright colours with a lot of florals and intricate details. My current winter collection consists of high-end velvet jackets and the newly customised bomber jackets.
Describe Humayun Alamgir in a few words.
