LAHORE: Jamat-e-Islami chief Siraj-ul-Haq criticised the use of force by the government against Islamabad protesters on Saturday.
An active proponent of the use of dialogue to resolve tense situations, Siraj said that the government should not have abandoned the use of dialogue.
Siraj also said that it was the use of force against the protestors that made the situation worse.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) Chairman Farooq Sattar said the operation was inevitable because the government had to establish the writ of law. He added that it would have been much better had the government consulted all parties before initiating the operation.
About 150 people were arrested and more than 170 injured on Saturday before the operation was suspended.
